Code of Ethics – Due 12/31/24

The Birmingham Association of REALTORS® membership voted in February 2020 to change our bylaws to adopt the National Association of REALTORS® three-year cycle for Code of Ethics training.

  • The current three-year cycle #7 runs from January 1, 2022, until December 31, 2024.
  • The next three-year cycle #8 will begin on January 1, 2025.

Code of Ethics training is not required by the Alabama Real Estate Commission to renew your Alabama Real Estate License – it is a requirement for membership to REALTOR® organization.  However, you may take the Code of Ethics as a 3-hour elective to satisfy your CE requirement to use towards license renewal.

All REALTOR® members must complete the Code of Ethics training during each cycle. The National Association of REALTORS® charges the local associations with the task of verifying that all REALTOR® members complete the requirement. NAR also charges the local associations with verifying that the classes being taught are in line with NAR’s recommended learning objectives. Before you sign-up to take a Code of Ethics class contact the Education Department at BAR (205) 802-6079 or phillip@birminghamrealtors.com to confirm it is from one of our approved Education Partners.

Failure to Complete CoE

How do I make sure BAR knows I completed my Code of Ethics?

You may have completed the Code of Ethics through one of BAR’s Education partners during the current cycle, but BAR does not know about it. You may have received CE for completing a Code of Ethics class during this current cycle. That remains valid with the Alabama Real Estate Commission. BAR does not have access to your CE records on file with the Alabama Real Estate Commission. That information is password protected by federal law for you. The National Association of REALTORS® recommends that only courses and equivalencies sponsored by, local, state, or National REALTORS® Associations can satisfy the Code of Ethics training requirement. There are many options available to complete your Code of Ethics for this current cycle.
